Too much neon? Or not enough?

I somehow hadn't heard of the PS1 horror adventure game "Yuuyami Doori Tankentai" until a few days ago. Unfortunately, seems like it was a Japan only release and there is currently no complete fan translation 😔

A specific thing about this whole AI discourse that bothers me is seeing the term "AI" used generically in place of historically existing terminology and/or processes. It feels like an attempt to normalize the usage of AI in a disingenuous way. "Oh you used a Photoshop filter? That's basically AI."

I kinda like it but I think the lighting is a bit too realistic for the point and click era I'm targeting? I feel like this tips a bit more in to the higher detailed, late 2000s.

I was doing some research and realized that Sierra had a run of absolute banger covers for their horror games during the 90s

I'm moving faster on 'Valley of Guilt' dev because I recently accepted that the original plan was significantly over-scoped. Such as, the inclusion of a fully working Microsoft Encarta Mind Maze homage. (This did survive the cut though.) As-is, I think I've already got like 3-4 hours of gameplay.

It wouldn't really be a 'corpsepile' game, if I didn't have you at least briefly explore a suburban house. And no. It's not HQ_Residential_House. I have ✨m a t u r e d✨

I think im going to slowly work back up to posting consistent game dev updates because I mainly develop "in a vacuum" and miss the feedback.

There's a 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 in my game where you have to search through a pile of trash bags, looking for a key item. It is driven purely by RNG. No. I won't be changing it.

I figure oversharing on cool visuals from my game is really only a problem if said game ever finally releases. Sort of a "win-win" there then. (and there's still a bunch of stuff I'm going to keep under wraps permanently)

My attempt at making my 90s FMV point and click game "period authentic" extends beyond just visual aesthetics. As far as I know, I'm one of few people who are intentionally reducing frames and also deliberately adding in screen tear lol. (Most likely will let players tweak this for accessibility)
