World mental health day, if nothing else it’s a reminder to stop and check in with yourself and those close to you. Life can be pretty busy, we can miss the signs, if you don’t chose when to take a break, the choice gets made for you and it’ll never be at the right time.

As well as the new, all-electric #Renault 5 models we saw in the Renault Défilé, we saw a fair few out in the wilds of the Parisian streets (including a Roland Garros and an #Alpine A290). The success of the car no doubt borne out here by urbanites bowled over by its chic looks and #EV power. #R5

On our way home from our European city break today, but while in Paris earlier in the week, we went to the #Renault flagship store at 53 Champs-Élysées. Called the ‘défilé’, meaning ‘parade’ the three-storey building has a spiralling ‘catwalk’ that shows off both new and classic models. #R4 #R5

The 2-door saloon body, aimed at more conservative buyers, was a rarity in its class in Europe, where hatchbacks were fast becoming the default choice. The car kept the roomy Polo hatch interior - shown with smart check upholstery for the CL model - with the bonus of an unusually large boot.

The early entry-level Polo Classic C is shown here in a typically bright '80s shade. To maintain an identity separate from the new 'breadvan' Polo, VW built the saloon with rectangular headlamps until 1984, when it reverted to round units, as the model adopted the Polo name everywhere.

Volkswagen's British importer abandoned the Derby name in favour of Polo Classic when a new generation of the front-wheel-drive 2-door saloon arrived in 1982, although it continued as the Derby elsewhere (for a while). This UK launch brochure features the mid-range 1093cc CL. #weirdcarbs

Can't say it's been recent that I have last seen this gen Polo saloon. Good to see and I know you all #WeirdCarBS nerds will love it.

The facelift of the decade-old Polo finally allowed much-needed servo brakes, previously absent on right-hand-drive models, which was just as well in the case of the 121 mph G40. Inside the car were sports-style seats with colourful Le Mans fabric and the Polo range's new dashboard.

The G40 used the Polo coupé bodystyle and was easily recognised by red badges front and rear, as well as BBS alloy wheels. Unique in its class, the supercharged engine was said to give 'instantaneous throttle response with virtually no lag' and 'muscular, responsive performance'.

Volkswagen facelifted the aged mk2 Polo for the '90s, adding some excitement by offering the supercharged 113bhp 1272cc G40 as a regular model, after its limited production in pre-facelift form. This 1991 UK brochure boasted of the car's 'class-leading technology'. #weirdcarbs
