We need a rating/review site for academic journals. Something like Yelp, but for academia. As far as I can tell, there is currently no mechanism to hold journals accountable for editorial malpractice, or to provide feedback that is transparent and visible to the public.

The .science top-level domain is a cool idea, but basically every single word in the dictionary + .science has been claimed by domain squatters. earth.science, seismology.science, math.science, etc. are all claimed but "available for a price". This is a crime against the scientific community

Can we all agree that before a manuscript is accepted for publication, a production team should not be asking for (1) a manuscript PDF with and without figures/tables, (2) separate figures in EPS format, (3) separate tables in .doc format, (4) separate captions, (5) LaTeX source files (incl figures)

I'm working on revisions of a manuscript, and the reviewer comments just spark so much anger and frustration. Not because the comments are mean (mostly), but because they demonstrate such a blatant lack of imagination and mental flexibility, and now I have to somehow deal with it.

Academic spam (which accounts for about 50% of my received messages) is bothering me way more than it should. They are so easy to spot that reading 3-4 words in the title/body is enough to identify it, and yet spam filters fail miserably.
