We should have stopped when she expressed discomfort. We should have stopped when she started screaming. We should have stopped when the power went out, but the machine kept going anyway. The lights were out, but she now emitted her own light. We should have stopped, but we no longer had control.

He glared at me from across the table, lip slowly curling into a snarl. He might have deemed the day's tumultuous events below his notice, but now he knew for sure they weren't below mine. I remembered. And now he knew I was acting on them. "What did you say?" "I said 'Pass the salt, bitch.'"

The drawn-out battle had dulled my sword's edge, but my hate remained as sharp as ever, pure, focused on this single enemy who had taken lives and towns from us. I let one last battle cry as I started charging. Too late, I saw in the corner of my eye the dragon's tail sweeping at me from the side.

Monday Morning. One hour late. From a punctual man, this raised a few eyebrows. Didn't call in sick. Didn't tell his bosses or his team. Curiosity turned to concern. His superiors called us. We sent nearby boys in blue to do a welfare check. He wasn't faring well. He wasn't faring at all.

His limp worsens with every mile. Stopping isn't an option, the horse would barely notice the slack rope going taut. Continuing isn't an option, only a hasty trial and death await. In the distance looms a bridge over a river rushing to a fall. An idea takes root. Waters of life indeed. #vsspic
