Another clip from Glassbreakers! This is a 4 hit attack chain with dice. The games characters auto attack when within range. The speed of the attacks is a bit slower than I was used to, so I used that time to show a little personality and attack progression.

Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss by Polyarc will be out November 13th. It’s a game I helped prototype WAY back in 2016, put on hold at the time. Resurrected in 2021, I helped the team a little bit after Moss 2 was released, prior to my departure from Polyarc. My good friend Jason is anim director!

Everyone tests their rig differently. This is how I tested ours right before we remade the mesh and changed her skeleton. 😆 Had fun with this test clip anyway.

Seattle is the northernmost big city within the contiguous USA. I live about an hour-ish east, near the mountains. We got our first snow of the season recently. 3 inches total! For comparison, Milton Florida got 8.8 inches this year. Yeah, we’re failing to match Florida’s snow totals.

I keep hearing all this talk about AGI. But until it can candidly state “I don’t know how to do that” instead of wasting my time slowly figuring that out, it’s not AGI.

While working an early story moment for Moss 2, I forgot to delete the constraints on the sword to Argus’s hand. To fix the bug, I gave Quill a proper response. 🐦 Obviously, this was me having fun while working, and not what we shipped.

About a year ago, when I was still with Polyarc, we explored new ideas. We built a block mesh for character concepting, letting me experiment with shapes and proportions. Then I created fun animations, like this to inspire and test ideas:

October 10th, 2014. This was for a boss fight in the Destiny expansion: Taken King. The player has just enough time to dodge when they see the anticipation.

1/2 - Moss 2 - In the final boss fight with Tylan, he'd fly around the room to attack or to fly between perch points. His flight was a system, not a bunch of custom animations. We used floats to drive things like wing flap (acceleration), speed, tilt, looks, etc... #gameanimation.

It's been a rough year for the gaming industry. Unfortunately, like the two prior. But the end of the rough news is hopefully in sight. I heard something positive today that gives me joy. I can't say what, but I can help spread that joy. Here's an old clip I made for Moss 2, years ago.

From the archives: Between Destiny 1 and 2, the team explored new ways for combatants to move about the space. I prototyped and pitched a jump- to- climb system so world designers could markup locations. A controlled way to increase vertical navigation without increasing overall jump height.

When adding my animation to the game doesn’t go as planned…

This little dino-robot’s name is Coda. He’s from an internal Polyarc demo I helped with back in 2018. Chris (art director) and I came up with the concept. I made this clip to explore his psychology, emotional viability and general tone. I used a mix of raptor and bird references.

More dung beetle! This was his celebration animation. Hope he doesn't accidentally make murder with it. I animated this guy back in 2020 when Moss 2 was in heavy production (we launched in 2022). Animating this guy was one of the ways I coped with the pandemic.

Capt’N SpriteBud has a request. Demanding and judgy little goober. They were so much fun to animate. Little mischief maker from the Moss games.

This little guy is from Moss 2. He’s based on a dung beetle. He pushes his rolling cannon around, mounts, and fires it. I’d animate the bug itself moving. But the way the cannon reacts is nearly 100% generated using my spatial tools. Primarily the physics and aim tools. He was so easy to animate!

Here’s a quick breakdown of my animation workflow. Though this one didn’t use reference, I normally do. I then focus on the posing in step key. I stay in step until I can feally feel the animation. Then use my unique workflow to tween. Posted this on other social media. But it’s new here!

In Moss 2, there’s a section of the game where gravity breaks, and Quill can walk on walls and ceilings. I wanted to represent how she felt about it the first time it happened to her. So I animated her panicked, scurrying backwards before looking up at you all wobbly. So much fun.

My business partner, Alejandra and I found the “Make fools of ourselves” machine at the recent Seattle Unreal Fest. Amazing what wine can do.

Back in July/August, I remade Resolve’s head, and created her low poly mesh from the Zbrush sculpt using Topogun 3. Such a cool app!

After making #Resolve’s sculpt, I realized I didn’t like her outfit. So I decided to learn #marvelousdesigner. This is her current outfit on an updated sculpt from late June!
