It’s always a bit surreal to see these giant dunes backed by Snow Cap Mountain peaks with people climbing them in swimsuits and even sledding and snowboarding back down. These dunes formed here in what is called a rift valley, which is basically a perfect area to trap the se Great Sand Dunes!

Up on the Panamint Mountain ridge of Death Valley sits an area completely unlike the drier desert below. Here we have cooler temps, moisture, flora, fauna, and forests. There are trails and campsites up here that can be double digits cooler than the valley below.
