I've just published my entry for Dogpit Jam XIII: Chimera Jam the-cheshire-cat.itch.io/50-ckp It's a bit of a prototype of a concept I've had in my head for a little while about building out an RPG based on MMO-style raid boss encounters and a large party of pseudo-programmable "players"

I don't know if anyone is actually reading my indie reviews but I've enjoyed doing them so far, it's been a good motivation to actually try playing games when I first hear about them rather than going "oh that sounds interesting" and then letting them sit on my wishlist for five years

After writing that big 50 indie game thread last year I felt like I should actually get around to playing more indie games rather than letting them sit on my wishlist forever, so I've decided to write a thread to document all the ones I've played this year with little mini reviews.

I dunno who needs to hear this but using AI at your Early Concept phase, or for ideation, is literally the worst place to deploy it It isn't creative, what it does is hand back tropes. That's what the model does: sift for likely responses to an input It's like building your foundation out of memes

If there's anything I hope young creatives take from David Lynch, it's to reject the modern IP-driven impulse to explicitly explain and cleanly categorize the logic behind every single event and decision inside and outside of a story at least some of the time.

If there's one piece of advice I can give to game developers, it is to never wink at the player. If your game is being ridiculous, just let it be ridiculous. If you are making a reference, let the player get the reference or not, on their own. When you call out the joke, it ceases to be funny.
