I'm realizing that the reason I remember so little from Once Upon a Time in Mexico isn't that it's bad, or even forgettable - it's that it's 8 different movies squeezed into 102 minutes. Individual scenes are memorable; action scenes are solid, but man, it's just a blur, even while watching it.

Last year, miHoYo copied my puzzle game Ouros in Zenless Zone Zero. Because they are a recognized, billion-dollar studio and my game isn't well known, some people are now assuming that their version is the original, and mine is the clone. I hope this video clears that up.

Likewise, while I knew about Monty Python, this was my first exposure to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It's definitely fun for a 90s "multimedia experience" or whatever, but it *is* basically a bunch of screens where you click and funny things happen, plus a bunch of minigames. I still like it!

ANYWAY. This game was my introduction to Shannara, and it's pretty good! (Note: Shannara is actually pretty great fantasy once you get past the first book, which is basically a speed run of Lord of the Rings. Even the first book would be a fine read if not for the fact that LotR already exists)

Here's a very special thing: The Dark Eye. Video game re-telling of 3 Edgar Allan Poe stories, each played once as the victim and once as the murderer? Oh, and it's all stop motion puppets. Weird? Yes! Also unique. No "puzzles" as such, more figuring out where to go and what to click to proceed.

Another game I have a ton of affection for, but can't necessarily call "great", is Black Dahlia (not based on the James Ellroy novel). FMV, fun plot, scenery-chewing, including Teri Garr being charming, puzzles ranging from "Yeah, I can see that" to "WTF, even w/the walkthrough this is nonsense".

One of my favorite point'n'click adventure a bit outside the big canon classics is The Gene Machine. Just a charming as hell, very well written, *mostly* sensible puzzles (which is about the best you can ask for in the genre), H.G. Wells/Jules Verne pastiche

It's a blogspot site, so it's frankly pretty janky on mobile, but the desktop version is great. You could, for instance, get the three brilliant Discworld games. Can you believe you can't buy three fairly successful games based on DISCWORLD anymore, of all things? Not GOG, not anywhere.

Watching Mad Max in 4K turned me around on that, though, and The Evil Dead, I've just sort of come to appreciate more over time. El Mariachi still sits in that category for me, though.

Man, the level design in Jedi Knight is so fucking good. Just, so creative and dynamic and in harmony with the locales. Jedi Outcast, the sequel has better force- and lightsaber mechanics, but the pre-force levels in that game are almost punishing. Jedi Knight is fun from moment one.

I'm all over the place, game-wise, right now, but one of the things I'm messing around with is @aarongiles.com's DREAMM. Really nice kind of XBMC/KODI-feeling UI, and Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight feels great to play in it.

I don't think I can recall a bigger "Who is this movie even FOR?" in my lifetime than the new Masters of the Universe. Every time I'm reminded that it exists, I'm just perplexed. How many He-Man fans are left in 2026? Because I haven't seen anything that could attract someone w/o prior investment.
