One thing that is super discouraging about being a freelance sports writer in the digital age is all the punching down from big figures in the industry that takes place online. If/when I get my dream job in sports media, I can’t imagine I’d be wasting my time picking on freelancers for likes.

Duke WBB just won the ACC Championship for the first time in 12 years with two Pat Summitt alums on the coaching staff: Kara Lawson and Kyra Elzy. Love this for both coaches: Lawson who won her 1st title in her 5th year at Duke and Elzy who coached at UK last season.

For the folks keeping score at home: Texas WBB is ranked #1 in the country for the second straight week, now has the SEC player and coach of the year, and is going into the SEC tournament as a no. 2 seed because of a *checks notes* COIN TOSS??? Make it make sense.

Regardless of whose side you’re on, determining a conference championship no. 1 seed on a COIN TOSS is absurd. Both teams were robbed here—nobody wins when the reward for a hard-fought season is left up to chance.

It would be so nice if we had some standard like—I don’t know—national rankings to determine who should be the #1 seed!
