I've been seeing some meta-analysis about data viz on my feeds and I wish I was as optimistic about some of the stuff I was reading (in terms of societal impact). My $.02 is that good data communication can help a critical thinker think critically, but it won't make someone a critical thinker.

I wonder how much of humanity's problems come from the fact that technology is completely outpacing our biological/anthropological ability to keep up. When we discovered fire, for example, we had thousands of years to adapt (e.g. our brains got bigger since we had more energy to spare).

I think about this a lot in the context of creativity. Creativity is messy, non-linear, and nebulous. Productivity is all about efficiency, optimizations, and outputs. They are completely different muscles, but it seems like society is always funneling everything through the lens of productivity.
