I went for a post-work adventure over the hill to appreciate the beautiful Dolores River Canyon.

I did a bit of a shakedown hike to a summit today for Summits on the Air and played radio with a beautiful view. Nearly made it coast to coast.

Getting close to having everything I need to head to the hills and play radio on summits.

What if we had all the knowledge in the world at our fingertips? But, then we squished that knowledge between "hey guys" and "hit like and subscribe."

It is better to have fire on the ground in places where fuel moistures have been sampled, temperatures and wind speeds are moderate, and an incident meteorologist is on site to validate expected weather than to wait for an ignition on a bad day in the middle of summer.

Signs you are in New Mexirado: there are four speedways visible from any one spot.

Earlier this week I posted a photo of a Sandhill Crane possibly contemplating a nesting site. Looks like the spot was chosen! Hopefully we will have colts (baby Cranes) in about a month.

I'm not one to hand out life advice, but I do recommend getting to the top of a mountain.

A Sandhill Crane with feathers freshly painted with iron-rich mud, which will give the feathers a rusty tint. It's believed this is done to help the crane blend into the environment while sitting on a nest.

Cedar Mesa Sandstone was deposited in coastal dune environments during the Permian Period, about 270-300 million years ago. This bedding can reach over 1000 feet in thickness and has eroded exposures all over southeast Utah. Bullet Canyon north of Mexican Hat Utah, 11 May 2018.

Snowtography informed forestry article from The Nature Conservancy. Southwest Colorado is home to one of the first attempts to apply snow smart forestry within real world limitations.

There is a sandbar in the WI River with a huge old Oak tree where the Bald Eagles like to hang out. It's leaning quite a bit, so I don't know how many more years it has. The sand isn't the greatest base, but it grew very tall in the middle if the river. #birds #Oaks #BaldEagles #ThickTrunkTuesday
