Every year, edible food is discarded before reaching consumers due to marketing standards. On #InternationalDayofZeroWaste, we highlight the need to tackle waste at its source. Through the EU-funded #ROSETTAProject, we work to redesign market rules so sustainability, not appearance, defines value.

In parallel, our #HealthyMeal project promotes social inclusion through a network of restaurants that offer sustainable and healthy meals at affordable prices for disadvantaged people. Because eating should not be a luxury. It is a right. ❤️ 🥗

At SAFE, we believe that inclusion starts with food. Through our #Food4Inclusion project, we train young children to identify health risks in diets and we encourage them to adopt healthier habits.

Today’s #EPSCO council is raising a key question for inclusion. Persistent cost-of-living pressures, economic instability, and financial insecurity are pushing many families into social exclusion in the EU. This can turn into food insecurity and unhealthy diets for children and adults. 👨‍👩‍👦

📈 The current instability should not be used by retailers and distribution to increase prices again without justification. We must strengthen the mechanisms of the EU to monitor price formation throughout the food chain efficiently. Deliberate market distortions should be subject to fines. 💶

We call for the EU to legally commit to sustainable public procurement. 📜 🌱 #FoodDialogues 🎯 It is time to recognise food as a strategic sector in the EU, in the same way as industry or defence have been, supporting small-scale producers. 👩‍🌾 👨‍🌾 Quality and sustainability are as important as price.

We regret the endorsement of the trilogue deal on #NGTs by the ENVI Committee of the European Parliament. This undermines the integrity of organic food production, threatening its very existence. We call on the EP to reconsider its initial position with safeguards to protect organic production.

🎯 We are in Dubai at Gulfood, where we are presenting the main outcomes of our four-year SISTERS project on food loss and waste reduction, ending in April. Innovations developed include: ♻️ new bio-based packaging, ↔️the short-chain platform Regioneo, smart containers, and labelling solutions.

We call for the trilogue deal on new-genomic techniques #NGTs to be rejected by the European Parliament, ahead of tomorrow’s vote in the @envi.europarl.europa.eu. ✋ It foresees lower traceability requirements for category 1 NGTs. This threatens the very existence of organic food production. 🚨

The TealHelix project has completed Work Package 2 (WP2). The findings show that consumers need credible sustainable claims.🌱 SAFE leads WP7, conducting expert interviews to create integrity guidelines for clearer, more trustworthy sustainable food labelling.🤝 #HorizonEurope
