Apparently I have a specific subtype within my narrow-ish type, because whenever I watch MtG content on YouTube and Ben Wheeler is on, I have the most impure thoughts. That man could do whatever he wants to me.

October Horror Fest Day 31: Cobweb Eh, it's trying entirely too hard. Is the thing supernatural or not? Schools don't work that way. Parents couldn't act less human if they tried (spoilers: they're totally normal humans). The acting itself is fine, the script is just very bleh.

October Horror Fest Day 30: Hell House LLC: Lineage All the connections and backstory are good, but knowing I have to wait for even more is frustrating. Feels drawn out instead of planned. I'll still probably watch any more that come out

October Horror Fest Day 29: Sequence Break Body horror on a budget, mostly done through editing. It's not bad, but the plot is very 80s, especially in the 'not making a ton of sense'. The end isn't quite satisfying, but it's also better than the 'it was all a dream'. Overall, meh+

October Horror Fest Day 28: Best Wishes to All (Mina ni sachi are) Holy shit is this movie depressing. It starts out pretty solidly in a horror territory and then just goes full existential suck. Incredibly made movie that has something to say, but probably not a great watch if you aren't 'happy'.

October Horror Fest Day 27: Other Good setup, fairly nice effects. The main is one dense MFer, but that's at least kinda normal. The end is a little too drawn out though, but otherwise pretty good.

October Horror Fest Day 26: In a Violent Nature Wow is this a nothing burger of a movie. Slowest paced slasher maybe of all time. I have no idea why people like this movie. It's either predictable, boring, or usually both.

October Horror Fest Day 25: Death of a Unicorn Very silly but not played as comedically as I'd like. The end didn't feel earned. Probably my favorite Jenna Ortega role though.

I just saw someone on ESPN referred to as a TikTok Vibe Curator and I think I aged 10 years instantly.

October Horror Fest Day 24: The Elixir Another Indonesian film. Pretty by the numbers zombie film. I did enjoy how they only played it about 80% serious. But everything else was fairly run off the mill (including the 'physics be damned').

October Horror Fest Day 23: Run, Rabbit, Run Huge Babadook vibes but with some key differences. The soundtrack is kinda doing too much but the story is eerie enough. Pacing would be slow for a lot though.

October Horror Fest Day 22: Phenomena (2023) It's got a great comedic attitude, even if the horror is also present. It rides the line pretty well and the 3 mains have amazing chemistry.

Universal in Orlando has upped their vegetarian game. "Move-in day" has been some good eating.

October Horror Fest Day 21: The Deliverance This is a crazy movie to have Glenn Close in it, but she killed it. Acting was all great. The climax is a little extra bonkers, but still a good family drama/possession tale.

October Horror Fest Day 20: Perewangan Good Indonesian family curse story. Much prefer when the siblings are both cool and not the 'learning to appreciate each other' story. The ending feels earned. I've seen quite a few go for this style and not hit, but they nailed it. Child actors were awesome.

October Horror Fest Day 19: House on Eden Kind of a pastiche of 3 other horror movies, but not quite as good as any of them. Not terrible, but just not great either. Main character is just the worst though.

October Horror Fest Day 18: Brooklyn 45 A spooky moral puzzle with a somewhat unexpected ending. Would actually make a hell of a stage play if done right.

October Horror Fest Day 17: Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor Continues to be a solid found footage-jump scare ride. More story, which was a bit hard to track at points, but comes together. Does rely on the found footage trope of being dumb though.

October Horror Fest Day 15: Companion Much better than I thought it would be. Really what Megan should have been (in quality, even if the plots are vaguely similar). I loved its major point of "incels are the worst."

Work, I need you to quit freaking scheduling meetings you think are important, but aren't, ALL ON HALLOWEEN. What kind of monsters are you people?

October Horror Fest Day 15: Final Destination: Bloodlines A better outing than the last few. The Rube Goldberg devices were hit or miss though. 2 felt completely ludicrous instead of just implausible. But more of a story, so that was nice. The self-memorial by Tony Todd was definitely moving.

October Horror Fest Day 14: Death Valley (2021) Doesn't really do anything new. The characters as mercenaries are pretty unbelievable. The monsters look cool though, and make fun sounds. It's basically Doom-lite.

October Horror Fest Day 13: The Borderlands Pretty standard found footage, with all the associated highs and lows. The end was a little unexpected though, so that was something. But horror movies, you know you're allowed to have likable characters, right?!

October Horror Fest Day 12: No Exit Doesn't win any creative points, but the execution is pretty good. Realism takes a bit of backseat at the end for a trapped-murder story but the lead actress does a good job holding the movie up.

October Horror Fest Day 11: Don't Turn Out the Lights A collection of tropes with no real plot. Vaguely supernatural bs happens to the characters for a while, then they die, but the ending gives you a sense of 'fuck off'. It's not actually terrible, just useless.

October Horror Fest Day 10: Good Boy Very thoughtfully filmed and I loved it. Great suspense for a small budget, small crew. And hits you in the feels if you're a dog person.

October Horror Fest Day 9: Vesper Not really horror, more apocalyptic drama, but still very good. The effects (guessing both CG and practical) were very seamless. Main was sympathetic, and had a very hopeful message in a bleak setting.

October Horror Fest Day 8: Monster Island (Orang Ikan) This is a fun one. It doesn't do anything all that surprising, but it's solid all the way through. Set during WWII, but not in an obnoxious way. Definitely a good watch.

October Horror Fest Day 7: The Queen of Black Magic (2019) A spiritual remake of the early 80s one, but still by Indonesian filmmakers. Still a good revenge tale and the CG was a little distracting, but did still add to the experience. Overall, still a pretty good version.

October Horror Fest Day 6: Bring Her Back This ride starts early and basically doesn't stop. I was mad for half the movie (at characters) and was worried the end wouldn't be satisfying. But it pulls it off, barely. Acting is phenomenal though and very creepy and disturbing throughout.
