both SY!SQQ and YQY believe themselves unforgivable, and project that certainty without recognizing it as projection. both LBH and SJ!SQQ, not being mind readers, only see their refusal to reconcile. they don't recognize it comes from *self* hatred; they assume there's something wrong with *them.*

there's something to be said of how YQY was *right* that SQQ wouldn't forgive him for abandoning him. that he'd rather him dead than happy without him. the problem is that SQQ *would* forgive him if he knew YQY regretted it. it's YQY that doesn't think his regret is enough to excuse his failure.

Unfortunately, SJ!SQQ and LBH didn't want a less painful rejection. They wanted to be given the power (and it *is* power) to forgive. They wanted to be seen as an equal in all ways, rather than a failed responsibility. And it was denied to them. Of course they'd resent. Of course they were angry.

YQY and SY!SQQ thought they knew these children well enough to skip the part of conflict where they had to be vulnerable and admit to wrongdoing. They already knew they would be hated and rejected, so they did the rejection for them. Less painful for everyone involved, right?

The problem is that LBH and SJ!SQQ were uniquely vulnerable with them, and when finally asking for said vulnerability to be returned, were rejected. For reasons of self-hatred, sure, but it was a rejection nonetheless.
