This is why I'm so grateful for my new friends because they were crucial in helping me realize that a) I was in a bad place and b) being with these ex friends negatively affected me in more ways than one. Without them I would still be a naive dingus who kept thinking that everything was okay

It's crazy how much of a negative effect my ex friends had on me, and I realized that ONCE I left that friend group. It was a miserable place all propped up to be warm and loving, yet it fucked over people outside that group so badly

Sometimes you get sudden thought jumpscares/nightmares about your ex friend(s) and how rancid they are that it debilitates you a bit, but then you remember you have friends whom you can genuinely love and trust without the fear of being burned And that's how I know that things are alright now
