You can name tropes in your query, but it isn't required. In general, I advise focusing on the selling points. So if you have tropes that are a strong selling point, go for it! Just don't use a lot of your word count on it. #RevPit

Ooh, great question. Let's clarify. Yes, the standard is that queries should be presented as the author, not as the narrator. The narrative voice of the QL shouldn't match the pages. BUT! If the ms is funny or dark or spicy, etc, the QL (+ comps) need to reflect that, the genre + age #RevPit

Editors pick their #10Queries using whatever method they want. Some pick from shortlist/longlists; some do it randomly from all subs; some pick based on the queries they have specific advice for. I use the bones of my enemies and divination magic. #RevPIt
