I laid some blocks out together and this quilt is not making me happy!

Back on track! Seams are now a constant ¼” and blocks are coming together … and being cut up … and coming together again!

The Nine Patch disappears!

Not accurate with that ¼”? Me either!

First 9-patch block sewn together and pressed. Remember to just lift and set down the iron, don’t slide it as though you’re ironing clothes. I pressed the row seams towards the middle. Not sure that’s right but I’ll find out shortly! Now to make that 9-patch “disappear”!

I’ve finger pressed the seams between the squares toward the dark fabric. When I line up the rows to sew the together, the seams will then “nest” or fit firmly. You can feel when you’ve got it right because there will be no gap between the seams. More in alt text.

I’ve put two squares right sides together and will sew them using a ¼” seam in black thread. I almost always use either black or white for piecing. The presser foot on my machine is from my old Kenmore. It’s ¼” from edge to needle and I’m used to it. The small piece of scrap fabric 1/

Fabric is cut for the Disappearing Nine Patch and I’m ready to start sewing blocks!

Some quilting history and terminology! I’m posting these videos so that anyone who wants to try quilting knows that they can do it. It doesn’t have to be fiddly unless you want it to be. You can just play!😊 Note: Charm squares are 5” square. Jelly roll strips are usually 42-44” long.

Finished up the Pumpkin Patch quilt! 🎃 Measures 77” x 90”. I think this one will be for sale when it’s quilted and bound — need shelf space! It will go to the quilter tomorrow. Then I’ll take a short break to finish some projects and work in the yard before I start the Disappearing Nine Patch.

Tried to place an online order. Qualified for free shipping. Went to checkout and there’s a $10 “remote location” shipping fee. My good people, I live in a city of 15,000 14km outside Saskatoon which has over 350,000 people. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Trying to buy local and it’s really turned into a scavenger hunt. Three stops for one item which I still don’t have and will have to order online. A store which I’ve been patronizing for years now has a large minimum order so they don’t want my business 🤷🏻‍♀️

I spent a few months away from my sewing machine so I’m getting back in the groove with a couple of easy projects before I get fancy. This is the next quilt and it is going to use the same pattern, Dakota Sunrise, as the one I just finished with the marbled fabric. Cutting it out today!

I’ve finished the Midas Touch quilt top and will take it to be quilted this coming week. I’m working on a small space so I can’t spread it all out for you. It’s richer in person! I’m thinking I’ll go with some spirals for the quilting.

@glengrambo.bsky.social called me to have a look at something weird this morning: a purple “puddle” of stuff near our back deck steps. I had seen a similar substance covering our pond surface after a heavy rain. It’s actually composed of thousands of tiny insects called springtails!
