Big shout out to this bunch of young superstars who have raised almost £2k for our Gaza appeal by completing a sponsored run at Stormont. Some ran 3k, some +4k and the rest in between! They smashed it & have raised vital funds for children in Gaza who devastatingly continue to suffer so much.

With just a few days to go until the close of Stormont’s consultation on its draft anti-poverty strategy, we’ve been to some women’s support groups in Belfast to find out what people think of it. They told us about the suffering & pressure being felt in communities… 🗣️

We're deeply concerned by reports about the Anti-Poverty Strategy.  We know what's failed children before & that the public wants real action.  If it contains no new initiatives & no extra funding that's a mistake! We can’t tackle rising poverty by recycling existing policies!

Brilliant to welcome climate expert Gaia Vince to our office to talk about migration/climate change as part of a CADA organised visit. She challenges the far right narratives on migration so well - ‘People can’t come as prisoners, they should be seen as new members of a productive society.’

It’s time for scrutiny on what is in the signed off Anti-Poverty Strategy. We repeat our call for it to be ambitious, properly funded & driven by lived experiences of families, where focus isn’t simply on getting people back to work as some sort of cure. This delay is adding to anxiety for people.

We fear child poverty levels will rise as a direct result of the welfare reforms announced today. 870k children live in families that receive PIP & 290k of these are already in poverty. A reduction in income for families with a disabled parent means more children will suffer.

🚨 NEW: Ministers may have abandoned their plan to scrap the two-child limit when funds allow, according to the i Paper. We are disappointed to hear these reports. Removing the two-child limit would lift at least 500,000 children out of poverty, it must be scrapped. ➡️ Read more: bit.ly/3Fp2WDF
