FACT OF THE DAY. 24 December 1914. German and British soldiers began an unofficial truce on Christmas Eve on the Weatern Front. During this ceasefire which continued on Christmas Day soldiers on both sides emerged from the trenches, shared gestures of goodwill and played football.
