Shit like this and NanoWrimo make me so mad. I have never participated in either, but the idea is just infuriating!

Something like that could be great if treated like a daily sketch or warmup, and ink can help build line confidence. Not sure how it was intended at first, but the nature of posting it meant there definitely came to be a social pressure to make amazing daily drawings.

Inktober sets completely unrealistic expectations regarding output. Making a complete inked drawing in one day EVERY day for a month is insane and a recipe for burnout. Don’t tie your worth to something that even professionals believe is unrealistic.

I attempted it once in 2016 and did not make it past the 16th, lol. But for real, I’m glad people are waking up to the idea that artistic output every day is simply unrealistic. This is a very toxic mentality that was hammered into a lot of us in general.

If it was like a tiny doodle everyday in the little square on your calendar I could see it being a fun, sustainable little exercise. But it turned into a whole content mill thing for full illustrations. It feels more geared towards pleasing an algorithm than actually wanting to practice a medium.
