To peat or not to peat? 10.7 per cent of Latvia’s GHG emissions come from peat sector. Greatest challenge lies in peat use for soil substrate, a crucial product in horticulture, agriculture and forestry. Alternatives to peat exist, however, ambitious and supportive EU wide policies are needed.

As a highly species we can also adapt to the fact that we live in an overabundance of stuff and don't need to posess every nice and pretty thing that we come across. And thus break free from that dopamine release mechanism, which comes from our hunter gatherer past when a new "treasure" is found.

For me it is astonishing to understand how literally the gas or coal that heats our homes or tap water is sun's energy from millions of years ago that was captured by plants or microorganisms at the time.
