Just finished Lucy Undying by Kierstan Whyte. I really enjoyed it; I was braced for a lot of clichés going into a book that proudly declares itself a "retelling of Dracula", but the plot dances through that minefield unscathed 🙂

When my grandmother was 9 years old, she and her family lived in Texas and they were extremely poor. She lived with her mother and stepfather and three sisters. My great-grandmother made all their clothes, and they scrimped on everything so that they had enough to eat.

It was indeed fun! The players really got into character and embraced the underdog mindset. They lied, hacked, ambushed and tunnelled their way through the map, culminating in flooding the big bad's RCD with ads and gunning him down before he could recover. 10/10, such a great system!

I have four players at my CY_BORG game this evening. They have 17 hit points between them, 9 of those on one character, but they rolled really well for weapons and they're itching to murder some imaginary fascists 😈 this should be fun. #CY_BORG #mörkborg

Genuine question: who is actually consuming AI content and enjoying it? I'm puzzled. People use it to make stupid memes at work and I've seen some pretty niche AI kink stuff, but is anyone actually enjoying it like you would real art?

An upgraded robber for Settlers of Catan. Created as a Christmas present for a friend's grandmother, who loves the game. Also my first and possibly last piece in pine. The grain is beautiful but it takes so much effort to cut into. I did get it from a hardware store though...

Game development can be a bit of a slog sometimes, so it's important to appreciate the little moments. For example, my random character generator just spat out Dump, a character with a "battle moustache". I'll keep working on it 😂

Tiny doors! I initially made one for my daughter so the tooth fairy can get into her room to get her teeth. I'd like to make more of these, but I seem to have lost the piece of wood I was cutting them from. Oh well. Also I promise they're square; the perspective came out weird in the photo.

One of the things I love about whittling is how little you actually need to spend on tools. A decent knife is important, but my toolkit includes broken metal files, a Stanley knife, a couple of large sewing needles, a ruler from a cracker and a old toothbrush.

@chapelorahamm.bsky.social this is the only one I can find of my older scenery pieces. The goblins are apparently sacrificing my d20 on the evil altar 🤣 I don't remember what it did to deserve such a fate but it must have been bad.

I love making tiny scenery. Not sure what it's for (making the amount required for TTRPGs, even just my own game, isn't practical) but it's satisfying nonetheless! The little bottle came out especially nicely 🙂

An experiment: if you cut the crusts off a sandwich (my daughter is not a fan of crusts), try chucking them in a frying pan with a little butter to make a crunchy snack! So far I've only tried it with cheese sandwiches but I suspect jam or honey would make a nice sweet treat.

Can confirm, this book is indeed utterly deranged and also an outrageous, gory delight! Not for the faint of heart but highly recommended, it's both gleefully messy and tightly plotted, with a story that kept me guessing until the end.

An older piece that I decided deserved some love (and paint). I try not to do any further carving when coming back to older pieces, but I couldn't resist making a few tiny changes 😅

I may have jumped the gun on this as the government are insisting they won't take wedding rings or family heirlooms. That gets a deeply suspicious raised eyebrow, but at least they considered it. I guess this is a lesson for me about checking my sources properly.

As a kid learning about the Holocaust, I didn't "get" it at first. I knew a lot of people died and that it was really bad, obviously, but it was just another historical event reduced to a bunch of facts. Then I found a very particular picture in a textbook and suddenly I GOT it.

Hopefully this will serve as an apology for the horrors of my last creation. Little is known about this individual, with their many eyes, huge tusks and can-do demeanor, but one thing is certain: they never skip leg day 😁

If you're getting started with whittling or another hobby that requires sharp tools, it's normal to struggle with stropping and sharpening your tools. It will take time and practice, but don't get demoralised - keep trying different methods, watch some videos and you'll find what works for you 🙂
