Tyrannosaurus rex, species of predatory dinosaurs that lived during the end of the Cretaceous Period about 66 million years ago. Tyrannosaurus rex is the best-known and largest member of a group of theropod dinosaurs called tyrannosaurs; its scientific name is Latin for “king of the tyrant lizards.”
