We got a Lovesac (not sex furniture) couch. Pros: comfy, modular, configurable. Cons: took Five Hours to set up. My grip strength is fucked.

I sprayed my Godzilla and Kong with primer, I’ll get painting once that’s cured. I think I fucked up Kong’s face; hopefully I can fix it in paint. I was going to do a Quetzalcoatlus-based Rodan next, but the idea of a devil based on Barbatos bum rushed the line. We’re Getting Spooky.

I got some regular white Sculpey, two pounds worth, which I should have gotten in the first place. The multicolored stuff was hard to work with as each had its own consistency. The stone-looking one, the last in the 21 color pack, is the worst, as it has little black flecks that make it crumbly.

Godzilla progress: yes! I hated the eyes, so I filled in the outer corners and moved the sockets noseward. The pose read as a horizontal theropod, so I cut it at the hips and rotated the legs down. Likewise the arms, with the Shin upward palms. Home stretch!

GODZILLA DON’T SURF

NOW we’re cooking with atomic flame. I chopped the head and used reference drawings—it’s actually a very simple design, mostly spheres stuck together. It was the best mix of the different versions that i could find, minus M-Verse and Shin. The nose slipped in the oven a little, but I can fix that.

Guess What. Daikaiju Butt. Thìs is not Mechanikong; I’m down to my last few packs of Sculpey, and they’re the Fancy Ones. Pearlescent, metallic, glow. Silver it is. Overall, I’m happy with Da Big Ape. Teeth are my absolute Achilles’ Heel, but hopefully paint will make them look better. (1/2)

Pretty pleased with Kong so far. His proportions are more hominoid than gorilla, and that’s intentional: a homage to the guy-in-suit versions, and, in my headcanon, Kong is the primate representative in the kaiju ecosystem, which includes Homo. I think that’s as big as his ass is getting.

My kaiju sculpture project had a setback when Gojira was torched in a too-hot oven. I think that was a sign; the sculpt was getting there, but the scale has been all over the damn place. Kong was way bigger than Godzilla, which felt weird. Back to the drawring board.

I finally watched Godzilla X Kong yesterday—what a hoot! On one hand, it was TOTAL KAIJU SMACKDOWN, and the Rio brawl felt for all the world like it was filmed Tonkusatsu style. On the other hand, it asks the viewer to empathize with monsters, a feat I thought only del Toro capable enough of.

My first impressions on Clair Obscur are overwhelmingly positive. It reminds me of Lost Odyssey, if anybody remembers that little 360-era gem. The Parry system is challenging, but very rewarding. I don’t always hit it, but when I do? Whooo, DOCTOR. (1/2)
