Today's run featured falling snow and a couple of inches of fresh snow powder. I really like running in that kind of weather, but with unplowed sidewalks it was a bit like 8 km of shuffle dancing.

I had an opportunity to meet Jimmy Carter very briefly at a conference. His grip was so strong I wasn't sure I'd have a hand left when we finished our handshake. It reminded me of shaking hands with the steel workers and fishermen where I grew up — people who were not strangers to hard work.

The work he, and Dr. Donald Hopkins, did Ato eradicate guinea worm through the Carter Center was innovative and inspiring.

People in our region owe a debt of gratitude to Jimmy Carter that I haven't seen a lot of coverage of. While a naval lieutenant, his selfless action helped avert a nuclear disaster in Chalk River, about 160km (100 miles) up river from where I live. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

It's frankly a complete joke that computer science graduates are not exposed to secure programming and secure by design as part of the CS curriculum. Drop a current required course and add this. There really isn't anything more important.

While a part-time super during uni my go-to lock picks were a nail clipper's hooked file & a paper clip. Opened almost everything. Table knives were great bypass tools & nothing beat the letter opener for cabinets. But new Lishi and tubular tools. Wow! What makeshift tools were/are your favourites?
