Sobriety makes it easier to keep a level head during what can be a stressful time of year. There are many factors why people binge drink over Christmas, and stress is a big one. Yet, alcohol can make stress and anxiety feel much worse

If it's not yours, don't take it. If it's not right, don't do it. If it's not true, don't say it. If you don't know, be quiet.

We need to create a society where problematic drug use is treated as a health, not a criminal matter, reducing stigma and discrimination and enabling the person to recover and contribute positively to society

Many newly sober people endure gatherings and parties because they feel they have to. When you’re at an event, check how it is making you feel and if you feel like leaving, do so

No one sets out wanting to be addicted. It’s teeny-tiny steps and teeny-tiny risks, and the links are so small that you don’t see where they’re headed. And those steps are hard to quantify because they’re different for different people

If you're not sure what self-care works for you, ask yourself these three questions: What can I do within my power that will make me feel better? What helps me recharge when I'm feeling drained? Are my needs right now emotional, physical or practical?

I found myself thinking this myself. The challenge is that I felt i was void of a personality unless I was drunk, I felt my new personality was sobriety. Fortunately, with time, I began to discover I wasn't just a state, but could contribute so much more. Well... I hope so anyway.

'Being poor is cool' is the most messed up stereotype ever. Wasn't cool when I got kicked off housing benefit and was crying into my leather jacket, sat on my motorbike, smoking a cigarette in black and white
