People spend a lot of time wondering why the left is worse at using independent media to control the national narrative. A useful exercise is to ask why the left is also worse at selling snake oil and pyramid schemes, because I think the reasons are basically exactly the same.

Publishing looks glossy from the outside. Inside? It’s built on unpaid labour. My first book is out this year. Here’s what I actually got paid, what my contract says, & why most authors can’t afford to do this twice.

Published Doesn’t Mean Paid.
I want to talk about money. (Ugh, I know. How crass.) Specifically, how much money authors make, or more accurately, don’t. I signed my publishing deal in 2023. My advance was £2,500. That’s it. I w...

Speaking of comics: Whether this new administration “observes” it or not, it’s still Black History Month. Here’s a list of great comics by Black creators, and/or centering Black characters & stories 🕊️ 📚

I recently landed back in California to start my comics journalism internship. Very excited! Very turbulent time in news to start reporting, but is it not always? This short comic I made a while ago about how media algorithms can tunnel into negativity feels as relevant as now as ever.

Nomology (THE CONSTITUTION) with Franita Tolson — alie ward
If you've never read The Constitution, you're like most of us. What does it even say? Most of Americans aren't law scholars, which is why we sat down with a Dean of USC's Gould School of Law, Professor Franita Tolson, to have her give us the crib sheet on the most important document in the free worl

Animal Photo Reference Repository

GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references. Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.

Hi ✨ I’m a comic artist :) I care about the environment, and I hope to create evocative journalism with my work. Here are a few pieces, I’ll post more in the coming days! I’m not all too skilled at social media, but I’m glad to be here!
