November 7-8th, 2013: Typhoon Haiyan peaked at 195 mph, 884 millibar Category 5-equivalent super typhoon. Based on wind speed, it is one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded and one of the strongest landfalling tropical cyclones on record. 1/2

This has to be unheard of. With an extraordinary peak flash rate of 699 flashes per minute just prior to landfall in Jamaica, Melissa probably set the record for the most prolific inner-core lightning outbreak ever recorded in an Atlantic hurricane.
