During a shutdown, troops worry if their families can pay rent or buy groceries. Their paychecks are not guaranteed. My first bill will be the SALUTE Act, guaranteeing full pay for active duty, Guard, and Reserve during any shutdown. If troops do not get paid, Congress should not get paid either.

Yesterday we wrapped up the day at the VFW Post 76 Veterans Day Festival in Universal City. Grateful for the conversations with veterans and families from Guadalupe County. Connecting with people who care deeply about their communities is what keeps me motivated to fight for Texas 35.

Visited the Veterans Day celebration at Hemisfair Park and had meaningful conversations with several nonprofits. Many veterans shared concerns about the future and the economy. Listening to them is how we truly honor their service, and I am committed to carrying their voices forward.

Started the day at a food drive with VFW Post 8397 on the Southside. Proud to be a member of this post and grateful for the veterans who stepped up to help families in our community. No veteran or family should face that. Post 8397 showed what real leadership and service look like.

Last night I joined veterans and leaders at the Tex-Vet-V.O.I.C.E.S. Challenge to discuss real solutions for the issues affecting veterans in Texas. These conversations help shape policy that truly serves those who served. Proud to be part of this work. #TX35 #TeamLira #VeteransFirst
