Yeah new Expedition 33 interview was out. The generated texture was just part of them experimenting with GenAI when it was brand new years ago when they were first starting working on the game. They didn’t like it, said “it felt wrong”, stopped using it, and a single texture from that got missed.

The more I look at it as more and more information comes out the more it seems like E33’s AI use boils down to a dev or two experimenting with UE5 engine tools, one of which made a placeholder asset and forgot about it, then proceeded to stop using it because it provided nothing of value.

The entire point of AI being bad is that it devalues human work and creativity and steals jobs from actual creative workers. So when the pushback against AI becomes so zealous and vicious in its purity testing that it ends up just doing the thing we hate AI for doing, what are we even doing?
