Quite surreal to see my PhD thesis being cited in Emilio Audissino’s new article, “Canonizing John Williams”. Spurs me on to continue my research, if I can squeeze it between all my new teaching (how do people manage the balance!?) A wonderful coda to my academic year!

As usual: unsurprising and a hot mess

Wicked is monumental but left me underwhelmed and unimpressed. Drab colouring despite lavish sets and costuming, and the flow and momentum of good songs is disrupted by too many lengthy cuts and dialogue interludes. Most impressive thing about it is the marketing!

Thrilled to have presented at NYU Steinhardt for Music & the Moving Image conference! I resuscitated & updated my MA thesis on the reminiscence motif in Star Wars, and was blown away by the support & warmth of the audience. Great also to catch up with friends old & new. See you all in 2025!

#PhDone! Had a wonderful experience during my viva today thanks to Dr Antonio Cascelli, Dr Kylie Jarrett, and my external examiner Dr Emilio Audissino! Sláinte! I am soon to be Dr Power, fulfilling my dream of being a Bond villain and/or Marvel superhero!

It was a privilege to co-chair the SMI/ICTMD-IE Postgrad Conference with Kaylie Streit! No better way to cap my time as a student at Maynooth than by welcoming many young scholars, from near & far, to my academic home! My thanks again to all who joined us!

My last in-person class at Oxford Brooke’s today - finishing out the 3rd year’s musicology module with a discussion closely related to my thesis. It’s been a privilege to teach such engaged, excited and inquisitive students; I’ll remember our classes very fondly.
