Phil Woodworth has just pointed me to this 1973 film on tides. I haven't yet watched it through but already enjoying the computers (tape reels and printout), animated global tide maps (hand drawn) and health and safety on board ship (there probably was some).

The storm surge from
#Eowyn
is changing the sea-level from the usual tides. Here's Millport, at the mouth of the Clyde near Glasgow. It's just past high tide there, and the gauge averages out the waves. The sea is 1.5 metres above what is luckily a neap* tide. 1/?
