This is a really thoughtful piece on the substantial budget challenges facing Sonoma State University. Quite a few regional public and private universities are having similar--and difficult--conversations as enrollment has fallen over the last decade.

In this case, at Sonoma State University, @mkhaw.bsky.social reported tirelessly to understand not only what's behind budget cuts, but also what the cuts mean. The reality is, cutting is a gamble. The budget needs to be balanced, but no one's totally sure this particular plan is going to work.
