Independence Day is always when I raise a glass to freedom, whether ongoing (which we don't have this year) or, as now, on hold while we fight to restore it with every resource. Then another for all of those who perished fighting for it. Then three more to forget. That's enough until Armistice.

I cannot fathom why anyone would choose to give themselves a big, swollen ankle that cuts off their access to the kitchen, medical assistance, and gun safe, all in their own home.

I am thrilled that we have a judge with enough backbone to block this. Nothing irks me more than blaming "the Jones's" smart kids for your own child's refusal to study. Eliminating the competition sounds awfully close to the "participation trophies" that some people were complaining about last year.

Long ago, a classmate took comfort in our professor's soothing tone, as well as what seemed to be the easiest interpretation of lectures. Nobody could convince her that she was wrong. Mistaking comfort for clarity, you could say, is why we needed a new chemistry lab. Challenge your understanding.
