One of the things we did today was tucking fresh greens in a donated Christmas tree for the chickens to hunt and peck!

It has been brutally cold for the past week and our residents haven’t been able to spend as much time outside, so we’ve been constantly brainstorming to come up with enrichment ideas to keep their bodies active and minds stimulated.

Snow end to this winter weather! Some biggish flakes coming down.

We’ve had lots of people drop off their Christmas trees for the residents this past week! They love them when they are fresh and tender (but won’t eat them if they’re too dead and dry), and it is good enrichment for them to strip the delicate needles off. 🌲

Turned on my Christmas lights while listening to #carolsfromKings on BBC R4: the choir just sang my favourite carol "It came upon the midnight clear" with the traditional words, not the horrid modern version that throws out "ancient splendours fling", yay!

If you are fed up of the short hours of daylight, please take heart from the fact that the evenings are already starting to draw out, albeit by a few seconds every day. The earliest sunset was last Friday, 12 Dec.!

While sorting through some paperwork last week I came across this photo of Boo-Boo, who was part of our family from 1973, when she came to us as a kitten, until she crossed the 🌈 bridge in 1990. She was a feisty tabby who lived life very much on her own terms!
