This post was from April as Mayor Spencer was taking office and Jefferson City was taking control of SLMPD. My fears have been coming true. (fwiw, Kansas City homicides are still above 2024 ytd. One of the few larger cities in the country where homicides have increased so far this year.)

STL City homicides ytd are still below last year, but unfortunately they've been ticking up the past few months. Now just down 11% from the 119 at this time in 2024. The drop had been well above 20% for most of the year. And homicides in North Patrol already have surpassed 2024's year end total.

Strong agree with the Bull Shit comment. Examining BRT as a replacement for light rail isn't necessarily a bad idea given funding realities. But this must go back to the people for approval!

Interesting that the City's college-enrolled population declined by 2,800 in the 2024 ACS; more than the city's overall decline in population. I know SLU (and maybe others) got hit hard last year with fewer visas issued, which may have played a part. I assume it's even worse for colleges this year.

2024 1 Yr. ACS is out. Some highlights v 2023: Slight uptick in household size (up to whopping 1.81 from 1.80!) and number of households with own children. Slight decrease in number of households and increase in vacant units. Slight increase in poverty; but larger increase in child poverty. 1/
