Our nation's federal employees are more than just numbers on a spreadsheet. They make sure we have clean water. They protect us from financial fraud. They provide healthcare to our communities. They make our government actually work for people. Do not forget this.

This is your daily reminder that Republicans are planning to gut Medicaid, Medicare and SNAP to hand tax breaks to billionaires. Don’t get distracted. Help me spread the word.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story:

For all of my fellow feds: I know you are exhausted, anxious, scared, confused, stressed and sad. Remember that you are the rock stars that keep our country running. All of this BA is by design & we CANNOT let them win. Hold the line. Step away when needed, but stay the course. 💗💗

Direct File is live and processing tax returns! One of the most rewarding things I have delivered. And some incredible updates this year - half the states in the nation are eligible, and we support some data import of information IRS already has!

The stupidest thing about the "h1bs depress tech salaries" debate is that most h1bs go to tech jobs so if h1bs depress salaries, why are tech jobs the highest paid, most coveted jobs out there that everyone has been salivating to get into for the last decade?

A relative of mine told me who has her second ex-husband's name told me she didn't like it but was waiting to marry again to change it to her next husband's name. 🤯 All these husbands ditched all the kids with their names while she raised them. Why are women's own names not important?

My fave thing is takoyaki balls from the Korean store. I buy them so excited to enjoy them all week long and then eat all of them on the drive home like an ogre and get takoyaki dust all over my new car.

They tried a little too hard to replace all the characters in Dexter with younger versions and now it just feels like budget Dexter. Not everyone at the workplace has to be mini-mes of the og characters.

The main thing that sucks about child free life is the general lack of cake. Like I imagine people with kids are around cake a lot, but as an adult with no kids, I have to make my own cake happen if I want regular cake. I have to plan for cake.

When you call 911, they ask “police, fire, or EMS?” Only one of those costs money: the ambulance. That’s unacceptable. Imagine if your house was on fire and you were presented with a bill after it was put out. That would be outrageous. So why do we tolerate it with healthcare?

God I can't believe the time I've been wasting learning, testing, securing and debugging the codebase. Hell do they even realize how much time I spend talking to other people about what to code?!

Absolutely concur. I've been able to use ai to get me started on a small greenfield tool. But the daily bugs and enhancements on a large codebase, where you need to know dependencies across the system? No. Even explaining all those nuances to the ai would be more work than coding it myself.
