What exactly is fake news? It's a term that's been ever-popular for the last several years, and yet, it still seems to confuse many about its true meaning or significance. A research guide from the University of Michigan Library defines fake news as:

Graphic novels turn kids into lifelong readers. They challenge readers, transform reluctant readers into readers, they bring joy. They boost vocabulary, increase reading comprehension for brains that take in information differently. They tell a story. Graphic novels are real reading, real books ✨📚😊

One step further: it should be unthinkable that we would register people for the draft without first making sure that they are registered to vote. And indeed: it makes no sense generally to hold elections without making every effort to make it as easy as possible to vote! That’s what democracies do.

What’s really shaping school board decisions right now? The fight for the freedom to read doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It’s influenced by bigger forces affecting local elections and policies. Understanding these dynamics is key to protecting access to books in your community.
