My time in mainland China has come to an end, as I take one of MTRs high-speed trains across the border to Hong Kong. MTRs Vibrant Express fleet consist of just 9 high speed trains, used on short cross border hops to the likes of Shenzhen and Guangzhou

Tonight I'll be traveling on what might just be China's coolest nighttrain. Just 3 of these special CRH2E high speed trains exist, with pod style sleeping across its 16 carriages! Well be covering the 2000+ km to Shenzhen tonight, in just over 12 hours 🤯🚄

This is China's special CR400BF-C high speed train. Not only is it capable of 350 km/h it can also operate fully autonomously as one of very few high speed trains in the world. 🚄💨 It's also features cool buinsess class suites and a special livery for the 2022 winter Olympics in Beijing 🇨🇳

Nestled deep in the mountains just outside Beijing next to the great wall, you find Badaling Great Wall railway station. Located 60m below the surface, makes it the deepest high speed railway station in the world! 🚄🏔️

Made it to Beijing after a comfortable ride from Shanghai in the new ish Premium first class product! 1000km in 4h30m mostly at 350 km/h is really impressive 🚄💨🇨🇳

Couldn't come to China and not try out their version of the Bombardier Regina, found all over Sweden and related to the Danish Øresundståg. It's a bit bonkers seeing them being so similar on the inside, yet this is a 16 carriage 250 km/h high speed train going 1700km across the country to Chongqing

Had to start my visit to China with a ride on the Shanghai Airport Maglev, there are not many commercial high speed Maglev in the world! You can definitely tell Siemens and the Germans were involved in building it, take a look at these very ICE3 like doors 👀🇨🇳🚄💨

2 longish flights later and I'm back in Asia for the rest of the year 😎 In Bangkok for a few days first before heading off to try some real fast trains 👀🇨🇳

After 3 great weeks in Central Europe, I've made my way to Praha Hln with RegioJet, one of my favorite operators. 🚆 Never tried this dedicated relax class carriages before, but they are excellent! Huge sturdy fold out tables, lots of space for the cheap menu. 2.7€ for cake, beer and crossiant. 💪🇨🇿

Spent a few days in Northern Slovakia. It's pretty amazing how many small branch lines are still in operation here with decent service levels and good connections to the Bratislava -Košice Mainline. 🇸🇰🚂

Catching the MÁV EuroNight from Budapest to Berlin tonight 🚄🇭🇺🇩🇪 12 hours overnight in MAVs newish couchette cars. Train attaches to the Nightjet service from Graz/Wien in Břeclav, so we'll see if any usual nightjet shenanigans happens from there on. 🚂🌙

Heading back south on another short sleeper. This time on SJs cozy 1st class compartments, complete with an ensuite shower and bathroom. 🚂🇸🇪 Leaving Stockholm around 23 and getting to Malmö before 7, there's barely enough time for both sleep and a shower 😴🚿😅

Norway's been a blast, but it's time to head home via Stockholm with SJs other "High-speed" train the X55. The train was fully booked and with lots of bulky luggage, one first class toilet became a luggage room and was subsequently locked out of use to Stockholm 😂🇸🇪🚂

My stay in Trondheim is short, as it's time to head up the incredible Nordland line to Bodø! This is Norways longest railway line and I've got a seat in the huge armchairs in Premium Plus! With complimentary hot drinks, water and fruit being offered 🇳🇴🚂👐 The train also carries a cafe car 👀

Norway is a country I haven't explored much by rail. But that changes tonight 🇳🇴 I'm onboard the sleeper from Oslo up to Trondheim, which is operated by Swedish SJs Norwegian subsidiary. I've got myself a private sleeper for tonight's journey, the only issue? We're already due in before 7am 😔🚂🌙

Hello from Malmö and the brand new Malmö - Oslo direct train by Norwegian Vy, using not just 1 but 2 of their 200 km/h flirt trains. 🇸🇪🇳🇴🚄 It's a simple summer extension of 2 regular Oslo - Gothenburg trains, but it's a great improvement for Copenhagen travelers, due to better connections in Malmö 🙌

The roumerd Basel to Copenhagen+Malmö night train has secured the required funding🥳 Planned to start in spring next year. 🚂🌙🇨🇭 This was the last route by CNL to CPH, ending in 2014. Being the final night train to serve Denmark at the time. Anyone up for brining the Prague+Amsterdam portions back 👀

Finally got around to try the ICE3neo this morning, to see what the hype is about. It's real, this is probably the best ICE interior to date. Stylish, comfortable, with a great onboard ambience - DB hit a home run with the newer interior. Also 50m late into Brussels as the train broke down in Köln 😆

Berlin - Frankfurt Nonstop in under 4 hours. There are worse ways to spend an afternoon than in the comfy seats of First Class onboard an ICE 2 🇩🇪🚄 Also this was the way I learned apparently some ICE2s only have 1 first class carriage (ISO 2)

Something about every delay in Austria being caused by the Germans. Except for RJ286 which showed up at Innsbruck, the starting station a solid 40 min late this morning. 😆🇦🇹🇩🇪 Mixed feeling on the RJ2 in general, somethings feels 2 steps ahead from the original, other parts feel like 1 step back

The Rhodope narrow gauge railway is full of charm with its small trains, tight turns and climbing up to 1267m, makes it the highest railway in all of the Balkans.🚂🗻 It's a great way to reach the winter skiing and summer hiking spots near Bansko. 🇧🇬🏂🥾

Don't be fooled by the exterior of Bulgaria's trains, once you get inside, at least this first class compartment was in good condition. Comfortable seats and retrofitted with plugs and a modern control panel. Note the contrast between these 40+ year old carriages and almost brand new Smartron 😅🇧🇬🚂

Little revisit to Balaton yesterday, for another trip behind these former Danish ME locomotives. Unlike last week, they now run completely on their own without a unpowered Hungarian 418 locomotive in the consist. 🇭🇺🇩🇰🚂
