Arrival in Cancún after a brutally long journey from Palenque, I'm starving hungry, so it's time to get some proper food! 😭 Or at least it would be, if this station wasn't further from the centre than the international airport is... how much is the taxi? £35.

The Tren Maya makes a random stop in the middle of nowhere to refuel the engines. Meanwhile, the café car has nearly completely run out of food - I guess it's a pair of micro-croissants for dinner then. 😭

While not as cool as the HSTs of the Tren Interoceánico, the Tren Maya still has some international vehicles. A few Chinese DF4D locomotives can be found in sidings, as well as this one from Belgium and even a few Polish wagons!

The long queue for the café car on the Tren Maya. I got a pizza, a micro-croissant, and a cold water for about £5.50. Note that, BIZARRELY, all food and drink was confiscated at the security check before boarding (something I didn't even experience on my other Tren Maya trips).

Mexico's other railway project, the Tren Maya! While not as interesting as yesterday's ride, this is a large network covering major cities on the Yucatán Peninsula. It's a long 11 hours from Palenque to Cancún Airport today, with my second class ticket costing a crazy £113...

The new @LNER.co.uk Class 897 train interiors have just been unveiled, and I have to say they look really quite... good! 😱 It will be very interesting to try these out when they enter service. Let's hope they introduce some pleasant trains for once.

And we arrived in Pakalná on-time, after a very smooth and comfortable journey on the HST. This ride was one of the most enjoyable train journeys of my life, it's so crazy to be so far from home, and ride behind locos that I've had hundreds of times in the UK! 😁

It was really interesting to see the few modifications made to the HST, featuring Spanish translations that imitate the original signage from Virgin Trains - though seeing the Scottish Highlands in the toilets was a little bit odd! 😂

This set of three carriages (TFO+TGS+TGS) retains the excellent interior used while the carriages were in use with LNER, though that custom-built trolley is definitely new. It's going to be a comfortable 6h40m ride through scenery previously unseen by the HST fleet! 😁

Good morning from Coatzacoalcos Station, where I'm going to catch the Tren Interoceánico to Pakalná! And I'm in luck, as the train today is formed of a Class 43 with Mk3 coaches, second-hand from the UK! 🥰 It's 43170 and 43022 doing the honours this morning!

Heading off to Mexico on a horribly overpriced Aeroméxico flight for some more railway fun! 👀

Back to Miami with #Brightline, featuring a long stint at 125mph, a novelty in the USA! I've got a free light meal with a beer on-board, and after one near-miss with a car, we're safely back in MiamiCentral under 3.5hr later. A great service, just hope they fix the seats!

Arrived at Orlando station! Reminds me of Chinese HSR stations, being absolutely massive and also nowhere near the city centre - but without good transport links... 🙄 The lounge is one of the best railway lounges I've been to though, a few hours here before heading back south.

Can't say I'm a fan of these seats, they're FAR too upright even in the fully reclined position, it's really weird! Also the white leather has already managed to get very stained - a pretty bad look for a premium product on an InterCity train... 😕

And here it is, the #Brightline train, consisting of modern locomotives and carriages built by Siemens. I'm travelling in PREMIUM, in a spacious 2+1 layout... A complimentary light breakfast is offered, alongside drinks - let's head to Orlando at up to 125mph! 😁

Good morning from #Brightline's PREMIUM Lounge at "MiamiCentral", where I'm about to try what people say is the USA's best train! It's a decent lounge, with a good breakfast spread, though not a fan of the departure boards that use letter codes instead of the place names... 🤨

This is Poland's unique POPE TRAIN, a very special unit dedicated to Pope Jan Paweł II, and was even blessed by Pope Benedict XVI. Originally, it served the Kraków to Wadowice route, reaching his former hometown, but nowadays works to Wolbrom.

Trying out #LeoExpress on their new 14:25 service from Kraków to Prague! Unfortunately, due to a planned 10 minute turnaround, the train arrives late and departs late too, completely ruining my plans for the day. Not a very robust operation... 🤨

Heading down to Kraków aboard a lovely #PKPIntercity TLK service, travelling via Włoszczowa and Kielce. I've got a nice warm compartment to myself for this journey, and it sure is cold out there! 😅

Off to Warsaw with #RegioJet today, on a four car train that has almost no functioning doors... Looking forward to a speedy journey through the snow up to the capital! 😁

Oops, our modern EU200 locomotive can't pull the train up the hill, so a classic SM42 shunter was sent to give us a push into Nowy Targ. We arrived 88 minutes late, not a bad start for my travels of 2026! 😅

Time for a snowy ride down to Zakopane aboard the premier train to the city, the EIC Tatry. A brand-new compartment carriage with extremely comfortable seats for the two hour ride today, always great to ride PKP Intercity! 😍

Częstochowa station - easily one of the quirkiest and coolest in Poland! 😍

A brand-new cargo locomotive takes me further to Zawiercie (this locomotive entered service just one week ago, so it's fresh from the factory), before changing to something a little bit. Very interesting to compare a 60yr old design with a brand-new locomotive! 😁

It's the 25th December, so that's a perfect opportunity for a train ride, right? 😃 First, I'll head to Katowice on this loco-hauled train, it's pretty busy on the railways today, but thankfully trains aren't full.

After 12 hours behind this 'Peter' locomotive, we finally arrive into Warsaw Zachodnia station one minute early - what an epic journey across southern and eastern Poland. I love these long rides, which other ones would you recommend? 👀

Arrival at Lublin, and it's a Christmas miracle, with heavy snowfall during our 40 minute stop here to make a reversal. Now only two hours remain until Warsaw, the journey is nearly over!

As this train has NO dining car, you'll need to bring your own provisions. Or do what I did here in Rzeszów, and run to the nearest Żabka for a takeaway pizza! 😋 Time to head north towards Lublin, now in the latter half of the journey.

Departure from Wrocław is 11 minutes late, beginning the long journey. Almost nobody is doing this trip end-to-end, as it's just a Christmas special train for the various cities en route. However, there's nothing stopping you from booking the entire trip! 👀

Welcome aboard the TLK Roztocze, running from Wrocław to Warsaw. This journey takes as little as 3.5 hours on the fastest trains, but this service takes over 12 hours, using some of the oldest carriages in Poland.

Good morning from the EC Odra today, the 04:10 service to Berlin. It's great to have such early trains, and there are quite a few passengers on-board even at this hour. I'll be catching this train to Wrocław for one of Poland's longest train rides, any idea which? 😁

One of the SKPL Cargo diesel units used to assist PKP Intercity on unelectrified routes that are far too long for such a train. This one is a former DB 614 from Germany, and is 51 years old. Not sure I'd like to spend seven hours on one of these though! 😅

Time for a ride to Katowice on the EN63A. Despite being a regional train, this is possibly one of the most beautiful interiors I've seen, and some extremely comfortable seats too! 😍

And back to Kraków with IC Bieszczady. This service is usually formed of a pair of regional diesel units bought second-hand from the Netherlands. But I've lucked out, and have a loco-hauled train instead, with two beautiful classic Polish locomotives! 😍

We made it to Jasło a few minutes early, thanks to a generous timetable... Now, the PKP Intercity EP09 detaches, giving a rare opportunity to have an SKPL Cargo SM42 for the short hop to Krosno. 😍

Time for a special ride into rural Poland with the TLK Połoniny! It's a beautiful retro livery EP09 this morning, hauling this holiday train through the hills to Jasło. 😊

An opportunity to get the Kraków Główny avoiding line via Kraków Olsza, as the TLK Planty service takes this unusual route a few times a week. A speedy journey to Oświęcim this evening, sadly delayed by exactly 60 minutes due to staffing issues. 🤨
