Good morning from Kraków Główny, where the PKP Intercity sleeper train arrives 1 minute early. What a great service! 🥰

First ride on a PKP Intercity sleeper car, I'm riding from Lębork to Kraków in a triple room - this 9.5hr overnight ride cost me just €40, not bad for a comfy bed with friendly staff! 😍

Big thanks to ENT Slovakia for inviting me into the cab on their train as far as Gdańsk Główny, it was an experience I'll remember for a long time! 😍 Looking forward to 2026, where I will definitely try and travel on this train for a nostalgic overnight trip through Europe...

After visiting TRAKO, I stumbled across this very interesting train in Sopot Wyścigi! This is an ENT (www.ent-rail.com) charter train to Bratislava, using this stunning sleeper car formerly found on the Prague to Moscow route - such a beautiful carriage that I hope to ride one day. 😍

Testing the rail seats of the future at TRAKO 2025 in Gdańsk - there are some very comfortable products here that I can't wait to see on trains around Europe soon... 👀

Really great to try out Sim Factor's professional driver training simulator at TRAKO. It was good fun, and served as a reminder not to let me at the controls of a real locomotive. 😂

The battery-powered Škoda RegioPanter unit for ČD also made an appearance. I'm still yet to travel on a battery-powered train, unfortunately. I should really try and change that... 🤔

Pesa also presented the Gama 3.0 locomotive, with diesel and electric options available - and you can expect to see these on PKPIC passenger services soon. It's a modern locomotive, and with that comes a modern toilet located right in the middle - not seen that before! 😂

Also here was a new Stadler FLIRT for Trenitalia in North West Italy. This bright red unit is fully electric, and follows its bi-mode counterpart in service since 2019.

Here is the Newag Impuls 2, the 300th example built in fact! 👀 This variant has three doors on each carriage per side and no toilets, making it ideal for rapid commuter operations such as the SKMT here in Gdańsk.

The new Pesa Elf 3 for ŁKA local trains in the city of Łódz. They certainly know how to make an excellent train interior here in Poland, and the exterior design is certainly better than the previous generation. 😅

The latest brand-new compartment cars for PKP Intercity, which have certainly stirred some controversy as of late! 🇵🇱 Despite being very comfortable, I'm really no fan of the lack of window to the corridor, and somewhat uninspiring design... 🤨

The future of #VRmatkalla sleeper trains from Helsinki to Lapland! This mock-up is being showcased at TRAKO Gdańsk - and let's just say that I can't wait to try this product on the rails. 😍🇫🇮

The Trójmiasto region is connected by the SKM suburban railway, running every few minutes on the Gdynia-Sopot-Gdańsk corridor. Most services consist of these classic EN57 units, a design dating back to the 1960s, with various levels of internal and external upgrades since! 😅

Arrival in the Trójmiasto on-time, my destination being the northernmost city - Gdynia! I've not explored much of northern Poland, so it should be a nice few days up here. 😁

Heading further north aboard a PKP Intercity train to Gdynia, a modern 'Peter' locomotive at the front of this 9 car train. Train travel at its finest! 😌🇵🇱

One of Koleje Mazowieckie's rare Gama electric locomotives from Pesa, it's a fleet of just two! These funky looking devices run a few commuter services out of the city, with these delightful Sundeck carriages. A great Polish train, built domestically! 😍

Another ride on #RegioJet PL, that's my fourth one now! This time, I'm in Relax class, and just look at the size of that seatback table - a perfect mobile office. 😅

Wow, a locomotive that says "Cargo" on the side running a passenger service! What a rare and exciting thing to see today. 😁

A punctual arrival in Warsaw for #RegioJet's first ever domestic servivce. It's certainly going to take a bit of getting used to, seeing this Czech operator here on Polish tracks!

An unexpected sight, a pair of #DeutscheBahn ICE 3neo high-speed units here in Poland, parked in Idzikowice POLREGIO depot! I'm very interested to know what these excellent Siemens units are doing here in Poland... 👀

A look at the other travel classes on #RegioJet's trains in Poland: 1. Low-Cost 2. Standard 3. Standard (Astra) 4. Relax Each one includes a different level of complimentary service and comfort. And they are ALL considerably cheaper than most tickets on the competing EIP Pendolino service. 👀

We travel via Zawiercie before joining the CMK line, often argued to be Europe's first high-speed line, being designed for 250km/h back in the 1970s, but our top-speed will be 160km/h. Following engineering works, these trains will take a better route, cutting journey times by around an hour!

Here in Business Class on the #RegioJet, you receive bottled water and an orange juice for free, with unlimited tea and coffee on request. I also had to try one of RegioJet's famously cheap cakes, alongside a sweet potato soup, just 10 PLN (€2.40) in total. Decent food at very reasonable prices... 😋

Poland's newest long-distance train, the #RegioJet from Kraków to Warsaw! I'm travelling in one of these lovely Business Class compartments for the 3.5hr ride up to the capital today, powered by one of these new TRAXX 3 locomotives, all in RegioJet's iconic yellow livery - looking forward to this. 😁

Today sees the launch of #RegioJet domestic services in Poland, competing with the national operator PKP Intercity. Starting with Kraków to Warsaw once a day, the privately owned operator has big plans for expansion in the country, and I wish them the best of luck! 😁

Some of the commuter trains in Vienna use these loco-hauled rakes of double-deck carriages, some of the nicest ones out there, with a pleasant interior featuring reclining seats. And these carriages sure are tall (as you'd expect)! 😃

Let's head from Budapest to Vienna on the famous Railjet in First Class, taking around 2h40m. Decided to treat myself to lunch in the @DiningCar.at too, an organic yellow vegetable curry - always a civilised experience to dine on the rails. 😋

A rare find, as an ÖBB 1116 works a domestic Hungarian InterCity train into Budapest-Nyugati. This is one of the locos allocated to the cargo sector too, making it extra special! 😁

Still plenty of older locomotives here, with some dating back to the early‐1960s, and just about hanging on. It goes nicely with the retro interior of these carriages, too! 😅

The locomotive scene in Budapest is often changing these days, with the addition of these rather uncommon Alstom 'Astride' locomotives, and more Vectrons now operating for MÁV. 🇭🇺

Arrival into Budapest-Keleti just after 9am, one of my favourite stations in the world! 😍

Some of the many locomotives we have on the long ride from Rijeka to Budapest, with the diesel locomotive necessary due to the temporary closure of the regular route through Veszprém. This 40yr old sleeper is such a beautiful place to spend the night. 🥰

Next up, the MÁV Retro Istria Express to Budapest, where I'll be travelling in this beautiful 1985-built sleeper from VEB Waggonbau Görlitz in East Germany. It's gonna be a scenic 14hr ride up to the Hungarian capital tonight! 😍

Another arrival into Rijeka, this horrible multiple unit on the 6hr trip from Zagreb. There is something seriously wrong with railways in Croatia, if spartan trains like this end up on such long journeys... 😭

Now for a short ride with HŽPP here in Croatia, from the comfort of a classic loco-hauled train with spacious compartments. Not seen this weird bike storage area before though! 😅

Arrived in Rijeka, Croatia! 🇭🇷 What a great journey with PKP Intercity. Such a complex operation, organise at very short notice. A perfect example of what can happen when the train companies really want to. 😍

Onwards to Slovenia, the fourth country of this epic train ride. Lovely to get a couple of these classic SŽ 363 'broken nose' locos on the train too, they're full of character! 🇸🇮

Made it to Wien Westbahnhof, where this classic ÖBB electric locomotive takes over the train! 😍 We also drop off a few carriages here, continuing as just a three car rake through the alps...

We continue onwards into the Czech Republic, changing locomotive at Bohumín. And before bed, it's time for a meal - breakfast pancakes with beer, because everything else is out of stock (wtf). 😂

Heading further south in Poland, and it's time to visit the world-famous @DiningCar.at on PKP Intercity. It's a camembert cheese with salad for me this afternoon, delicious! 😋🇵🇱

Welcome aboard the PKP Intercity Adriatic Express, an epic 20hr trip from Warsaw, Poland to Rijeka, Croatia. This is my comfy and spacious four-bed room for the epic overnight journey through five countries... been looking forward to this one a lot! 😍🇵🇱
