This will be a moral misjudgment of major proportions in American history. That the U.S. government tried to protect and cover up a child pedo sex ring. To protect a President. And the media skipping around the issue.

You have to understand what pieces like this from the NYT are and are not. They are not an honest assessment of the state of politics today. They are a negotiation tactic—an effort by a calcified, right-leaning legacy institution to steer the discourse in a direction more palatable to elites.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

The Dems who are caving are doing so not because their base wants them to, not because the voters want them to, and not because SNAP recipients want them to. They are caving because their DONORS want them to. And that’s really all that ever matters to the establishment.
