This year’s UNGA took place amidst shifting global relationships. My biggest takeaway is that in regions around the world, the EU is being sought after as a reliable partner. We must step up our global engagement to answer this call.

At the UNGA, I signed with Foreign Minister Sommerfeld an agreement to boost cooperation against organised crime and terrorism. It strengthens Europol’s ability to exchange data with Ecuador - building on joint work that already led to the seizure of 73 tons of drugs and 36 arrests in March.

After constructive meetings in Washington, I arrived in New York to participate in and hold many bilateral talks alongside the UN General Assembly.

Before heading to New York for the UNGA, I made a stop in Washington D.C. to meet key partners in our transatlantic cooperation.

Today’s Salzburg Forum was an excellent opportunity to discuss key priorities with Central European ministers. The implementation of the Pact on Asylum and Migration has progressed rapidly, and all countries confirmed they are ready for the progressive start of the Entry/Exit system on October 12.

I am deeply concerned by the cancellation of the Münchner Philharmoniker and Lahav Shani at the Ghent Festival. I have asked the EU Coordinator on combating antisemitism to engage with the authorities and the festival organisers to ensure that this cannot happen again.

At the Shoah Memorial in Paris yesterday, I paid tribute to the Jewish victims of Nazi barbarism. With its Director Jacques Fredj, we emphasized the vital importance of remembrance, countering Holocaust distortion, and fostering Jewish life in the EU.

I met today with CRIF President Yonathan Arfi to reaffirm the EU’s unwavering support for Jewish communities in France. Antisemitism is incompatible with European values. Together with French authorities, we will confront it with determination.

It was a pleasure to connect with so many leaders, students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and changemakers at this year’s European Forum Alpbach. These exchanges show the strength that arises when generations and disciplines come together to shape ideas for Europe’s future.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining the Baltic Sea Ministers responsible for Internal Security. During our meeting, we engaged in productive discussions on countering hybrid threats and enhancing the security of our external borders.

Today on World Refugee Day, we honour the strength and resilience of those forced to flee war, violence, persecution or human rights violations.

At the Salzburg Forum in Zagreb today, I welcomed the good progress our Western Balkans partners are making on managing migration and fighting organised crime. The ProtectEU Strategy and closer cooperation are essential to dismantle criminal networks and ensure swift accession.

Today I will speak in a plenary debate on combating the sexual abuse and exploitation of children, including child sexual abuse material. This is a grave violation that destroys lives and must be met with zero tolerance.

We just reached an agreement on the visa suspension mechanism. To keep Schengen going and growing, we must continue to develop and safeguard it. Our visa policy is a vital tool for this.

I was in Stockholm today for in-depth exchanges with our Swedish partners on EU security and migration policy. We are working on a new migration system, focusing on more effective returns and enhanced international cooperation to ensure their implementation.

As someone who grew up on an external Schengen border myself, I have personally experienced the freedom that the Schengen Area provides to 450 million Europeans every day.
