It’s almost Saturday morning here and I’m home from emergency calls after successfully solving a few controls problems. - Here’s a very good lizard, a frequent and delightful sight here. 😄 I spotted a few earlier, sleeping as they do on chain link fences around our facilities but let them rest. :)

Here in Florida we’re struggling to work out the rapidly changing fine print around carrying firearms. Our move towards open carry seems much thornier than recently discarding licensing requirements for concealed carry. Sheriffs are all opining on TV — uncertainty seems to be the main takeaway. 😬

I worked through some more thoughts about mixing AI and nuclear weapons, an interview I wasn't able to use somewhere else, and what it's like to stare at the Chicago skyline while @armscontrolwonk.bsky.social tells you all the pieces that would be ash if anyone dropped a nuke on it

Being able to find the perfect components for fun pastimes and in small quantities from all over the world, something I’ve done since childhood suddenly seems like it’s going to become more difficult, expensive or probably both. 😞

We have those little community ‘leave a book, take a book’ boxes all over the neighborhood. Walking the dog last night I found these for the youngest one in our family. Apparently they all ready have the copy on relativity so I’ll have to replace it. :)

The explosion—which occurred more than 8 hours after a worker accidentally dropped a large socket, puncturing a fuel tank—killed Sr. Airman David Livingston, 22, and hurled the missile’s massive 9-Megaton W53 warhead through the reinforced 740-ton silo doors and into a ditch about 600 feet away.

This is probably the most frightening accident involving a US nuclear weapon, although the accidental drop in South Carolina is close. US missiles today rely on solid fuels, which are much less likely to result in this kind of disaster. The guy who found the warhead was a colleague at Los Alamos.
