A treasure trove of ever changing graphical shapes, the dead trees in Namibia's Dead Vlei, against a backdrop of towering red dunes, never disappoint. I loved how the two trees seemed to embrace!

A winter storm passes over the Great Salt Lake. These strange rocks are formed from the activity of microbes living in this harsh and unforgiving saline lake. I'm always struck by how dead and desolate it looks, but still somehow teeming with life under the surface.

I spent an inordinate amount of time this year wandering thru piles of discarded cars, machinery, and industrial equipment - completely fascinated with their history and states of decay. Rusted metal, peeling and faded paint. Lots of beauty to be found in this cast away decay!

Lichenscape #1 Starting a series I have wanted to do for a long time based on my personal fascination with lichen as a biologist. These lichen displayed interesting growth rings and I was taken with the subtle variation in colors and texture.

Namibia's dreaded east wind turns its coastal dunes into an unnavigable inferno. We went straight in! Blowing sand stung our feet, pelted our equipment, filled our eyes. But time stood still: We were immersed in a world of astonishing beauty, gone too soon.

‘Face-off’, 2019. Still finding my feet here. Thanks for the lovely, warm welcome yesterday. So, a question. What’s the vibe in the photo-community here? Do we mostly just share photos (fine by me), or are we more discursive?

One goal this winter is to photograph the endangered Great Salt Lake. It can be challenging to capture, as it can go from hauntingly beautiful to depressing hellscape depending on where you point the camera. I found these flooded mud flats last night after winter storm.

On the left, my image. On the right, the Al image that was clearly trained on, and designed to plagiarize, my image. All Al generated imagery is inherently theft. It's unethical, environmentally disastrous, and does irreparable harm to both artists and society.
