I had never visited this section of badlands before this year's trip to Death Valley. It was a pretty inspiring outing. Definitely looking forward to the return trip.

Today we celebrate Earth Day. Sadly, nature has never been more imperiled as myopic leaders in the US gleefully dismantle needed protections buffering against the greed driven destruction of our environment and, in turn, our physical and mental health. Please remember to vote the environment!

Warm weather this past week has sped up spring's explosion. It was pretty amazing to see the difference between lats weeks outing and yesterday's. Leaves are fast unfurling, flowers on the forest floor are popping, and ground cover in general has really come on strong. Such a great time of year.

It's catkin season here in the PNW! Not sure what a catkin is? It's those longish cluster of flowers which sprout on trees before their leaves form. They can come in a variety of colors so help give spring a "false fall" look in places. Anyway, here's a magnificent maple with catkins

Hey everyone! It's been a minute! Don't take it personally BlueSky community -- I took an unexpected holiday from posting on social media. I've been busy in the meantime photographing so there should be a good number of new images coming. Here's an image of spring greens showing off a bit.

Heading back to Death Valley tomorrow and that familiar feeling of anticipation and excitement is building. Not many places inspires and surprises the way Death Valley does.

It's a somewhat rare snowy day here in Portland! Love it when it happens. To honor this blast of winter I'm sharing a photograph captured down the street from my house during an even stronger snow event. Let the flakes fly!

Good morning! I don't often convert to black and white but once in a while the image demands it of me. This image photographed in Peru's Cordillera Huayhuash was one such instance. On another note: I'll be presenting at Out of Chicago LIVE next weekend. See first comment for more info!

Sometimes you find what you aren't looking for. I didn't set out that afternoon hoping to photograph a colorful sunset display, but when it appeared I was more than happy to do so

“On the Bend” On the last day of a fall photograph trip to Utah I came upon this little gem of a scene. I took it as the canyon’s way of offering a departing gift. It also made me wish I could have stayed longer. Then again I feel that way at the end of every trip.

I'm not sure I'll ever become tired of photographing fog drifting through a forest. This event isn't a rarity here in the Pacific Northwest, far from it, but every time I see it I'm unable to resist the urge to pull the car over as fast as possible. Time to grab the camera and enjoy nature's show.
