Just for perspective, a few weeks ago roughly 100,000 turned up for the London Trans+ Pride march. By contrast fewer than 3,000 ACROSS THE WHOLE COUNTRY, have turned up to anti-asylum "protests". Yet we are meant to take the latter as "the voice of the people" and the former as "the minority".

The UK will not escape its doom loop until politicians acknowledge two linked facts: Brexit is a perpetual drag on growth, output + tax revenues, and an ageing population requires immigration. So, until we rejoin the EU single market and labour markets operate freely again, stagnation will continue.

If the UK economy were larger, Labour would automatically be able to collect more tax without having to raise taxes. If Labour were able to collect more tax, they could do more. If they were able to do more, we'd all be better off. Brexit shrank the economy. Let's undo Brexit.

If Reform really do turn out to be Labour's biggest threat, Labour would be better off fighting them on any battlefield other than immigration, Reform's home turf. Brexit, for example.
