My last day in Norfolk, for a while, so I paid another visit to the Lesser Grey Shrike at Winterton-on-Sea. I was still showing very well on the dunes. #Norfolkbirding

Apparently, there are plenty of small fish, possibly stickleback, in the ditch by Daukes hide at Cley. This Little Grebe was very successful at hunting them this afternoon. #CleyMarshes

A few photos from the very windy RSPB Boston Belle boat trip this morning. A Peregrine on St Botolph’s tower (an impressive parish church). A Harris Hawk being used for seagull control at the shellfish processing factory plus a Curlew and one of the many seals on display. #RSPBBostonBelle

Ouse Washes this afternoon, from the Stockdales hide. Female Marsh Harrier with green H1 wing tags (and a rat for lunch), 2 Glossy Ibis (15 reported at another hide) and a flight of Cattle Egrets, disturbed by a Marsh Harrier.

Distant views of 3 White-tailed Eagles from Greenslade’s Wareham river cruise this lunchtime, probably G466 and G463. Plus a few shots of the 5 Glossy Ibis at RSPB Lychett fields. They were showing very well but flew further away just as I arrived, typical! #harbourbirds

Small and small-ish waders from the main observatory at WWT Welney this afternoon. Always good to see a Temminck's Stint, even if it was a bit distant (for such a small bird). #WWTWelney

There are plenty of berries on the bushes at Holme (NOA) a the moment, but there was no sign of this small flock of Long-tailed Tits feeding on them. Presumably insects and spiders are still in good supply.

A day trip to North Norfolk today resulted record shots of two 'firsts' for me. The Eurasian Dotterel near Ringstead and the Red backed Shrike at Thornham. Very pleased I made the effort. #Norfolkbirding

Back to Seaton Wetlands today, the first visit for several months. Not much to see on the marsh but there are still a few Sand Martins being fed. The bank has been a huge success this year. Plus several Wasp Spiders, this one was an impressive size. #wildeastdevon

Very pleasant walk at WWT Welney this morning. Obviously not much water around but, it seems to me, there has been definite uptick in the numbers of waders/waterfowl visible from the main hide. #WWTWelney

The feeders of Sculthorpe Moor NR are always a good place to spot birds that you may not to see frequently in suburban gardens e.g. Marsh Tit, Coal Tit, Nuthatch and Bullfinch. #SculthorpeMoor

Great Osprey cruise on the Rutland Belle last night with Elizabeth + team. Lots of sightings including an unringed bird with a failed dive and a distant 33(11) with a successful catch that ended up back on the nest, on the webcam. Light too poor to get the ring numbers. #LRWT #RutlandWater

While looking for the ‘Welney’ White Stork this evening, I came across a rural property that keeps quite a number of free-roaming Guinea Fowl and Peafowl. Apparently, they are good for removing pests and as alarm birds. No sign of the stork, unfortunately.

Started the day at Frampton Marsh but that was very dry, so moved on to Snettisham via Freiston Shore. I failed to find the reported Pectoral Sandpipers but Snettisham was full of other waders (mostly Godwits and Knot) as well as a Turtle Dove and ~20 Spoonbills. #Norfolkbirding

Female Wasp Spider. I have met several bird photographers who have sent the Canon 200-800mm F9 lens back as not being sharp enough, but I continue to be impressed by how versatile this lens is.

Zero CO2 birding. Pigeon with two squabs outside our kitchen window. I accidently uncovered the nest when hacking back the Whisteria but fortunately the adults seem to be unfazed by the exposure.

On principle, I’m not a fan of zoos but I am never going to see these birds in the wild. Orange winged Amazon Parrot, Greater Rhea, Fulvous Whistling Duck, Scalet Ibis, from the Amazona zoo in Cromer. It is tricky to get decent shots through enclosures. You must get the lens close to the mesh.

Ospreys at Ramworth Broad on Wed. The 1st Osprey known to breed in Norfolk for 250 yrs. Chick(s) at the wing beating stage before 'helicoptering' begins. The adults & chicks are unringed. The nest is self-built - possibly the NWT platform was too close to the Cormorant roost(?). #RamworthBroad
