On the topic of authors, I would love to see more publishers develop authors over time, not just chase the new debut. (I say this as someone whose publisher DOES do this for me, and I wasn't a debut when they took me on. But it feels so rare to receive support post debut!)

I used to desperately wish my books would get “over the line” in acquisitions meetings. Now I only want a sale where people across the publisher are on board from the start and don’t need a passionate editor to sway them. We know what happens to sales/marketing when they’re not fully feeling it.

“Editorial can have the vision but if the people who hold the purse strings don’t value Black and brown voices then you’re in trouble.” Lemara Lindsay-Prince hitting the nail on the head.

This is extremely comforting advice. Especially when there are those little niggles of imposter syndrome and pressure that authors feel when their books publish.

I'm still buzzing that I'm a part of GLL Literary Foundation for 2025! I'm excited to bring my UMBRA TALES trilogy series to more children and to encourage them to read more in collaboration with amazing libraries. 💜✨️

29 today!! Spending my birthday in Thailand and at a beautiful elephant sanctuary. You can tell how much the staff love and care for the elephants and learning how to make food for the elephants and seeing them roam around lots of acre of land was everything 🥹💜
