My initial calcs put the Tholian spinner at 95 feet long. That's about the length of the teardrop on the Enterprise. But it may be even smaller than that. When setting up the same shot that's in Tholian Web I had to put one spinner almost on the Enterprise hull. The other is a sane distance away.

One wonderful moment that I've always adored is Spock and Uhura's exchange in The Man Trap. It's so sweet and quotidian: I wish we had seen more of these interactions…

CANON AND CONSISTENCY. I think TOS is surprisingly self-consistent, especially in comparison with other tv shows of the era, and I appreciate the world building it establishes, but of course it has many little contradictions that make the idea of “canon” a bit slippery… 1/

I always found it kind of a touching detail that Spock puts on the protective gloves before entering the dilithium crystal chamber, knowing that he doesn’t have time to get fully suited up for what will ultimately be a suicidal task, but that he still needs to use his hands.
