Mostly here to riff on Original Series Star Trek.

Just taking a moment to appreciate these wonderful pictures of Tom Baker with

Iām sad to hear of the passing of Gil Gerard. He did a wonderful job bringing some realism to a show that was at times campy and absurd. If Buck Rogers were made today, they would hire some 23-year-old with six pack abs and an angsty disposition. Gil was perfect!

I know today is the 46th Anniversary of The Motion Picture, but yesterday was the 34th Anniversary of The Undiscovered Country. Not my favorite Star Trek movie, but it had my favorite Star Trek trailer⦠I was in High School when this came out and was so excited for it!

I love old interviews like this, before Star Trek became hugely popular. What strikes me is that Shatner and Nimoy are both very thoughtful, but not about the same thing. Shatner is more attentive to his *performance*; Nimoy is more attentive to his *character*⦠1/

Science Fiction is so often presented with a sleek, minimal aesthetic⦠Monochromatic greys, whites, and metal shades predominate. One of the things that makes Star Trek stand out is its extravagant use of color.

When Matt Jeffries was called upon to update the Enterprise design for Phase II, he hit on the idea of angling the supports for the nacelles: I love the that from his sketches you could see he was apparently inspired by the human arm in the act of throwing a spear or projectile.

Spockās Brain is not a good episode (although itās not as bad as is often claimed), but one thing I like about it is the moment when Kirk discusses which planet to explore and seeks input from Sulu, Chekov (and Uhura). Itās an unusual moment in the series, without the presence or Spock or McCoy.

The odd-numbered Star Trek films are often considered the weaker ones. Iām not saying I agree with that or not, but I think one thing they all have in common is they have some of DeForest Kelleyās *best* moments.

Itās no surprise that the Golden Age of Science Fiction began in the 1940ās⦠manās technology had reached a certain point; so, too, had manās malevolence.
