Naming rights are the top tier of sponsorship. Events, stuff, buildings. The company rarely funds the whole thing, but they get their name on it and take a lot of credit. For fossil fuel companies this is like cos playing as an organisation that creates something people actually like.

The Albanese Government’s climate target is absolutely fucked.

The PM was proud the 62-70% by 2035 emissions reduction target is in the "sweet spot" where "some will say it's too high, some will say it's too low." Any target would be too high for Barnaby Joyce – what's important is what science demands. It's exactly what Richard wrote about in Dead Centre ⤵️

62% isn't a reasonable climate target for Australia, it is robbing Australian lives and livelihoods for the benefit of the ALP's coal and gas donors. The dividend on that investment was already paid in full with credulous regulators and infinite tax loopholes. This is their free gift with purchase.

The Govt just set a 2035 emissions reduction target of 62–70%. That’s below science & flies in the face of the duty we have to protect the people & places we love. State commitments have 🇦🇺 headed for ~70%. This lowers the bar & makes it harder to push for more global ambition.

Government messaging on the 62-to-70% emissions reduction target is already emphasising how it is "responsible", "sensible" and "practical" days after its National Climate Risk Assessment found 1.5m Australians will have water lapping at their door from sea level rise in 2050.
